Special Guest Speaker: Ivor Nazareth, MD

Who better to present than one of your own colleagues who recently switched to EMR?
We are very excited to announce our upcoming event at Eisenhower Medical Center. Ivor Nazareth, MD will be our special guest speaker. Dr Nazareth has practiced medicine for 35 years and has been with Eisenhower Medical Center for 34 years. Toward the end of 2009 he changed his practice to a paperless office. Dr Nazareth chose McKesson's EMR solution- Practice Partner. At this event he will demonstrate how he uses an electronic medical record in his practice.
Before he moved to an electronic medical record he dictated his notes and used a transcriptionist. Now with EMR he continues to dictate using Dragon Naturally Speaking. Dr Nazareth explains, "I don't have a transcriptionist anymore. My transcription bill used to be between $3,000 to $3,500 a month and now that is gone." He loves that this not only saves him money but the speed and efficiency allow him to see 33% more patients a day than he was previously seeing with his paper charts! And unlike before, he no longer has to dictate the same long notes over and over again- he simply copies and pastes the information from a previous visit. He said he of course had to get to know dragon and dragon had to get to know him and his accent. "You've got to put in the effort first, then after you've put in the required amount of effort it is going to pay you back in dividens. It is a process. You have to work at it to be successful, I guess its even like a marriage- except that dragon doesn't talk back to you," he chuckles. "Now I can speak naturally, as fast as I am speaking to you, and it will pick up the text."
Dr Nazareth shared, "The jump from the old paper system to the new EMR system took a leap of faith and a little bit of training, but in the end it was worth it."
